Subtle Ways to Go Green

October 21, 2022

Looking to save some money and help the environment? Check out these subtle ways to go green!

1. Turn off electronics when you’re not using them. This includes your computer, TV, printer, and any other devices.

2. Unplug electronics when they’re not in use. Just because they’re turned off doesn’t mean they’re not using energy.

3. Use a power strip for your electronics. That way, you can easily turn off all of your devices with one switch.

4. Use energy-efficient light bulbs. They last longer and use less energy than traditional light bulbs.

5. Let natural light into your home. During the day, open up the curtains and blinds to let in the sun.

6. Dress for the weather. In the winter, wear layers of clothing instead of turning up the heat. In the summer, wear shorts and a tank top instead of cranking the air conditioning.

7. Cook smarter. When you’re cooking, try to do multiple things at once. For example, bake cookies while you’re making dinner.

8. Use the microwave. It uses less energy than the oven or stove.

9. Air dry your clothes. Instead of using the dryer, air dry your clothes on a clothesline or drying rack.

10. Wash your clothes in cold water. Hot water uses more energy and isn’t necessary for most items.

11. Take shorter showers. Not only will this save water, but it’ll also save energy from heating the water.

12. Fix leaks. A dripping faucet can waste up to 3,000 gallons of water per year. A leaky toilet can waste up to 200 gallons of water per day.

13. Recycle. This is an easy way to reduce waste and help the environment.

14. compost. This is a great way to reduce food waste and create nutrient-rich soil for your garden.

15. Buy in bulk. This can help reduce packaging waste and save you money in the long run.

16. Shop secondhand. You can find great deals on clothing, furniture, and other items at secondhand stores.

17. Bring your own bags. This will reduce the use of plastic bags at the grocery store.

18. Bring your own cup. Bring a reusable mug or water bottle with you to help reduce the use of disposable cups.

19. Bring your own straw. Bring a reusable straw with you to help reduce the use of plastic straws.

20. Consider a green power plan. This is a great way to support renewable energy and offset your carbon footprint.
