We all know the big ways to help the planet – recycling, driving less, using less water. But it’s the small things we do every day that can really add up to make a difference. Here are five small ways you can help the planet:
1. Bring your own bag. Whether you’re going to the grocery store or the mall, bring along a reusable bag. It’s one less plastic bag that will end up in a landfill.
2. Bring your own cup. If you’re getting coffee on the go, bring along a reusable mug or thermos. Most coffee shops will gladly fill it up for you, and you’ll save on paper or Styrofoam cup waste.
3. Turn it off. When you’re not using an appliance, TV, or computer, make sure to turn it off. Leaving things on standby can still use a lot of energy.
4. Use less water. Water is a precious resource, so try to use less of it. Turn the faucet off while you’re brushing your teeth, water your plants during the cooler hours of the day, and fix any leaks right away.
5. compost. If you have a yard, start a compost pile. If you don’t, see if your municipality has a composting program. Either way, you can help cut down on the amount of garbage that ends up in landfills.
